Let's face it. We're all a little busy. I'm busy with school and the things I'm involved in. Your busy with your significant other and work. So let me just let you in on one of the main reasons why I think the world can be a tough place sometimes.
It's because people are too busy in their own lives to care about other people. Have you ever misplaced your credit card and hoped that everyone around you would stop, take a couple minutes out of their day and help you find it? Or your car breaks down and you're not sure what's wrong with it, but you wish someone would stop and pull over to the side of the road to help you fix the problem?
I've been in these situations where I want everyone around me to stop what they are doing and I always hope that magically they will feel the urgency of my problem as if it were there own. But that's never going to happen.
We are self-centered creatures and most likely, we're not going to help other people because we have our own problems to deal with. I guess what I'm trying to say here is, why do we think like that? When we have a problem, we wish other people would stop what they're doing and help us but when people need our help, we ignore them.
Doesn't that bother you?
It should.
I challenge you and myself to stop being so self-centered and to start helping other people out. Stop being so caught up in your own life that you ignore the others around you who might need your help. Yes, you have problems but you're not the only one. Take a few seconds out of your day to help someone who needs it. It can be someone you know or a stranger. Maybe they are struggling to carry something so you ask to help. Don't just ignore them. You'll feel like a better person if you pay attention to them and acknowledge the situation. Guaranteed.
It might be something small you do. But it could make the biggest impact on someone's life.
